LENS FILTER IN Low Vision
The glare caused by light is a major problem for many Visually Impaired . It ‘ possible that they tried, at least once, tinted lenses or sunglasses but without success. The use of a common color , such as gray or brown, cut the light over the entire visible spectrum by lowering the brightness resulting in a decrease in visual acuity , leaving , however, spend a smaller portion of light but across the spectrum .
In the early eighties the Corning France has launched the filters CPF glass specifically for eye diseases . The same results , however, were then obtained using an organic material ( CR39 ) , much lighter and more versatile . The filters from the line LEGIT SKUDO , are available in the wavelengths from 400 to 600 nanometers. These colors can be made on any type of lens : single vision , progressive , polarized or photochromic or clip-on version .
The filters controlled nanometers LEGIT SKUDO can eliminate the ultraviolet rays and the blue wavebands , being the waves with more energy , are the main source of disturbance, and often in pain , to the eye. Cutting the harmful wavelengths , the filter improves the contrast and eliminates the problem of glare increasing the visual acuity of the patient and his
The use of filters in different diseases is summarized in the following table , which represents the result of the allocation of filters :
Macular Degeneration: 511 and 450
Glaucoma and Cataracts : 511 and 527
Diabetic retinopathy : 527
Retinitis pigmentosa : 550
Optic atrophy : 450 and 511
The filter is useful not only to eliminate the problem of glare outdoors but also for comfort and to give greater contrast to the aids for reading. The use of the filter with Low Vision has therefore great importance : we recommend to always try to patients various filters so that they can choose the most suitable to their needs.
